More about this artwork
Ľudovít Čordák’s painting “Still Life with Apples” captures a simple yet intimate scene that evokes a sense of timeless tranquility. Created between 1925 and 1930, this artwork exemplifies Čordák’s skill in blending texture, color, and form to portray ordinary objects with extraordinary appeal. This still life composition features a cluster of brightly colored apples, their hues ranging from a vibrant red to a soft, muted green. The fruits are artfully arranged on a draped white cloth, which serves to highlight their round, lush forms. Accompanying the apples, a clear glass of water provides a stark contrast to the solid, opaque textures of the fruits and nuts also present on the table. Additionally, a decorative blue and gold jug with a dramatic, ornate design adds a historical or traditional element to the composition, suggesting a connection to heritage or familial gathering. The setting is intimate, with a dark, undefined background that focuses the viewer’s attention on the vividly depicted objects at the foreground. Čordák's brushwork is visible, adding a tactile quality to the image that makes the fruits appear edible and the materials tangible.“Still Life with Apples” is more than a mere depiction of food and everyday objects; it is a celebration of simplicity and the beauty found in the familiar. This painting invites viewers to pause and appreciate the quiet moments and the simple pleasures of life.
