More about this artwork

Delve into the enigmatic allure of "Būkime kartu" (Let's Be Together), a captivating 2009 painting by Lithuanian artist Arūnas Rutkus. This artwork tantalizes viewers with its intricate play of textures and subtle interplay of light and shadow. At the heart of the canvas is the gracefully poised figure of a woman, her face partially veiled by an ornately patterned fabric. The veil, shimmering with golden hues, is adorned with intricate beadwork and embroidery, suggesting a garment of significant refinement and cultural value. The use of gold not only adds a touch of luxury but also imbues the painting with a warm, inviting glow.Rutkus masterfully contrasts the rich textures of the fabric with the stark, weathered surfaces around the figure. The rough, almost dilapidated textures on the left side of the painting impart a sense of age and history, perhaps alluding to the enduring nature of identity or memory. This juxtaposition deepens the viewer's curiosity about the woman's enigmatic expression, which carries a sense of serene contemplation or mild sorrow."Būkime kartu" is more than a portrait; it is a visual exploration of heritage, emotion, and the human condition. Arūnas Rutkus uses his distinctive style to invite onlookers into a world where tradition and modernity meet, prompting reflections on personal and collective narratives.
