More about this artwork

We are proud to showcase the captivating painting "Paskendusi savyje" (2010) by the renowned Lithuanian artist Arūnas Rutkus. This piece mesmerizes viewers with its intricacy and profound expression, serving as a testament to Rutkus's skill and artistic vision. The painting presents an enigmatic face that fills the canvas, rendered with a stunning mastery of texture and a rich, earthy palette. The surface of the painting resembles an aged wall, layered with cracks and fissures that give it an almost archeological feel, as if we are unearthing a timeless relic. Rutkus plays with a palette of muted golds and browns, which lends the work a serene, almost reverential quality. The most striking features of this painting are the delicately painted closed eyes with pronounced and realistic eyelashes, which suggest a deep, meditative state, and the lips, starkly contrasted in gentle white. This juxtaposition captures a personal and introspective moment, inviting viewers to ponder the subject's thoughts or dreams."Paskendusi savyje," translating to "Submerged in Herself" in English, aptly fits this piece as it draws us into a narrative of inner reflection and the complexity of human emotion. This work is not just a portrait; it is a journey into the soul's depths, echoed by Rutkus's exquisite technique and sensitive portrayal. This painting is a masterpiece that enhances our collection and continues to inspire and engage our visitors.
