More about this artwork

"Komposition" by Otto Freundlich is a captivating exploration of geometric abstraction that compels viewers to contemplate the relationship between color and shape. Created between 1935 and 1936, the painting employs a medley of geometric forms, each filled with a rich and somber palette of blues, greens, browns, and impactful shades of red.Freundlich’s skillful arrangement of these colors and shapes brings about a dynamic interplay, producing a sense of movement and depth that seems to both advance and recede in the viewer's eye. The subtle variations in tone and the juxtaposition of curved and angular forms create a rhythmic harmony, making the canvas pulse with a quiet energy. This piece reflects Freundlich’s commitment to the ideals of abstraction, where emotions and universal truths are communicated through the language of form and color, devoid of representational elements. Through "Komposition," Freundlich transcends the traditional narratives of painting, inviting observers to engage in a pure aesthetic experience, guided by their interpretations and emotional responses.
