More about this artwork

Otto Freundlich's mesmerizing composition "Lichtkreise (Kosmischer Regenbogen)," which translates to "Light Circles (Cosmic Rainbow)," painted in 1922, endows viewers with a profound exploration of color and abstraction that seems to delve into the essence of cosmic wonder. The artwork exhibits an array of vibrant, overlapping concentric circles that create an illusion of depth and movement, suggesting the dynamic expanses of the universe. Each ring in the painting radiates with a unique hue, effectively mapping an unseen celestial terrain through color. The darker, cooler colors at the base contrast with the warmer, lighter colors at the top, guiding the eye on an upward journey across the canvas. This spectrum may represent the varying energies or frequencies found in the cosmos, rendered in a style that feels both mystical and methodical.Freundlich, known for his contributions to abstract art and for being a proponent of non-objective painting, challenges the viewer to perceive beyond the tangible world. “Lichtkreise” is a stellar example of how he uses abstract forms and intense colors not just to beautify a space but to encourage profound intellectual and emotional interactions with art. The painting is not just seen; it is experienced, inviting contemplations on the nature of the universe and our place within it.This piece, radiant with Freundlich's characteristic optimism about the harmony of the universe, continues to inspire and captivate art lovers.
