More about this artwork

"Lavandières au bord d’une rivière près de Nantes" (1887) by Maxime Maufra offers a captivating glimpse into everyday life on the riverbanks near Nantes. This painting features a group of lavandières, or washerwomen, engrossed in their daily task. Set against a serene backdrop, the natural setting is depicted with a lively touch, showcasing Maufra’s adeptness with Impressionist techniques. In this painting, Maufra captures three main figures positioned along the river’s edge, surrounded by lush vegetation and stout, leafless trees, possibly in the early days of spring. The artist uses a palette dominated by greens, blues, and whites, conveying a refreshing yet tranquil atmosphere.
