More about this artwork

"Damenbildnis" (1923) is a compelling portrait by the artist Anny Dollschein, capturing the essence of a woman in a highly personal and evocative style. The drawing is executed in charcoal, allowing for both sharp lines and soft shading that emphasize the delicate features of the subject. The woman, drawn almost in profile, possesses an engaging gaze that seems both introspective and slightly enigmatic. Her features are crafted with a graceful realism, with the contours of her face, the gentle drape of her clothing, and the tidy hairstyle all coming together to form a harmonious and tender depiction. Anny Dollschein's mastery in sketching is evident in the fluidity of lines and the detailed rendering of subtle expressions, which lend the portrait a lifelike quality. This artwork may resonate with viewers not only for its aesthetic beauty but also as a reflection of the era in which it was created, capturing the artistic climate of the early 20th century.
