More about this artwork

Welcome to an intimate glimpse into the tranquil vision of Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita, an artist celebrated for his distinctive style and emotive portrayal of subjects. The artwork titled "Vrouw met een knot op het hoofd en gesloten ogen" (Woman with a Bun and Closed Eyes) created on December 29, 1943, stands as a profound representation of simplicity and inner peace. This minimalist ink drawing captures a woman in a state of serene repose. Her eyes are gently closed, and her features are rendered with soft, flowing lines that convey a sense of calm and contentment. Her hair is styled in an elegant bun atop her head, adding a classic touch to her timeless demeanor. The background features curved and angular lines perhaps suggesting elements of the environment around her, yet keeping the focus intimately on her expression and the emotional resonance of the scene.Adding depth to the piece, the right side of the drawing presents a small figurative element in a framed-like depiction, suggesting themes of reflection or perhaps a window into her thoughts or dreams. This could symbolize the aspects of her life and personality that are not immediately visible, encouraging viewers to ponder what might lie beneath her tranquil exterior.Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita's use of clear, confident strokes highlights his skill in creating powerful imagery with minimal detail, allowing the viewer's imagination to engage deeply with the work. This piece not only showcases De Mesquita's technical prowess but also reflects his ability to capture the essence of human emotion and stillness.Perfect for those who cherish the beauty of subtle yet striking artwork, this piece reminds us of the profound power of tranquility and the depth of simple contemplation.
