More about this artwork

The painting "Göthilda Fürstenberg," crafted in 1891 by the renowned Swedish artist Carl Larsson, captures the essence of serene domesticity and aristocratic grace. The artwork features an elderly woman, Göthilda Fürstenberg, seated comfortably in a lavishly decorated room, her expression composed and contemplative. She is dressed in an elegant black gown that reflects her status and the fashion of the time.A focal point of interest is the juxtaposition of the vibrant, intricately designed floral upholstery of the bench against the simple, dark tones of her attire, highlighting her dignified presence. Beside her, on a richly patterned carpet, lies a sleeping dog, adding a touch of warmth and tranquility to the scene. This element suggests the comfort and companionship of a cherished pet in her stately home.In the background, one can observe finely crafted furniture and a tall vase holding white flowers, which not only enhance the room’s elegance but also introduce a fresh, lively contrast to the darker tones predominant in the painting. The meticulous detail in the rendering of the wooden panels and floor tiles showcases Larsson's skill in portraying interiors with accuracy and depth.Carl Larsson's "Göthilda Fürstenberg" is more than just a portrait; it is a snapshot of an era, reflecting the refined lifestyle of the Swedish upper class in the late 19th century.
