More about this artwork

Maurice Pillard Verneuil's "Bouton d’or 3" (1896) encapsulates the timeless beauty and elegance of Art Nouveau design through its exquisite depiction of nature. The artwork illustrates three distinct but harmoniously blended panels, each celebrating the ornamental potential of floral motifs in a stylized form. The top left panel features an array of tall, slender flowers and intricate foliage set against a muted background, creating a delicate interplay of form and color. Soft pastel tones are masterly utilised to give depth and texture to the botanical elements. Adjacent to it, on the top right, is a narrower strip showcasing white floral designs that gracefully contrast with a deep blue backdrop, highlighting Verneuil's bold use of color and composition. The lower half of the painting presents a beautifully bound book with a cover that showcases vivid yellow flowers against a rich blue field, reflecting the Art Nouveau movement's enthusiasm for integrating art into everyday objects. This aspect of the painting not only adds a layer of depth and narrative but also celebrates the era's philosophy of accessible and aesthetic utility in daily life objects.Together, these elements demonstrate Verneuil's adeptness in graphic design and his contribution to the decorative arts. "Bouton d’or 3" is a testament to the artist’s vision of blending natural forms with artistic expression, making it an enduring piece of visual culture from the Art Nouveau period.
