More about this artwork

We are delighted to feature "Jonquille 4," an exquisite piece by Maurice Pillard Verneuil from the year 1896, in our gallery. This painting reflects Verneuil's profound mastery in the Art Nouveau style, which emphasizes natural forms and structures. The artwork is structured into different elaborate panels, each exploring floral motifs with daffodils — commonly called 'Jonquilles' in French — as central figures. The largest central panel is adorned with elegant blue-green leaves and vibrant yellow daffodils, set against a complementary soft blue background, bringing a serene yet majestic aesthetic. This central display is flanked by narrower panels, each characterized by detailed patterns and differing in both color and design, adding sophistication and diversity to the piece. The top border features an intricate design with tulip-like flowers embedded within a harmonious pattern of red and white hues, contrasted by curvilinear dark green elements. A vertical panel to the right introduces a more subdued palette utilizing browns and tans, focusing on linear and flatter floral representations which balance the lush vibrancy of the central section.Overall, "Jonquille 4" exemplifies Verneuil’s potential to blend color, shape, and symmetry to produce a visually engaging and harmoniously balanced composition. This piece not only illustrates the natural world in an ornamental style but also evokes a sense of tranquility and order, notable characteristics of the Art Nouveau movement to which Verneuil made a significant contribution.
