Ombelles et libellules, jeu de fond. Crevettes, bordure. (1897)" by Maurice Pillard VerneuilWe are delighted to feature the captivating artwork of Maurice Pillard Verneuil, a prominent figure in the Art Nouveau movement. His 1897 masterpiece, "Coq, vase argent ciselé. Ombelles et libellules, jeu de fond. Crevettes, bordure." offers a stunning exploration of form, function, and fantasy within this distinctive artistic period. This painting prominently features a sculptural rooster-shaped jug, commanding attention with its detailed, feathered texture and elegant curves. Crafted to suggest silver craftsmanship through its greyish tones and intricate embellishments, the jug not only serves as a vessel but also as a centerpiece of aesthetic delight.Behind the rooster jug, an elaborate background unfolds, filled with ombelles—or clusters of tiny blossoms—intermingled with the delicate forms of dragonflies, bringing a touch of whimsy and the essence of nature to the composition. These elements are rendered in soothing shades of pink, orange, and violet, creating a lively yet harmonious pattern that captivates the eye.Adding to the complexity of the work, a decorative border at the bottom presents a pair of stylized shrimp set against a deep green and red backdrop, swirling with Art Nouveau's typical organic lines and forms.Maurice Pillard Verneuil's ability to blend functionality with ornamental beauty is evident in this piece, encouraging viewers to delve beyond the surface and appreciate the fusion of artistic elements.
