More about this artwork

"Collection décors et couleurs Pl.09" is a striking painting by Georges Valmier, a notable figure in the Cubist movement who was known for his unique and vibrant exploration of form and color. Created in 1930, this artwork captures the essence of Valmier's innovative style. The painting is divided into a two-part layout, each featuring a collection of geometric shapes and subtle textured patterns. These abstract forms come together in a harmonious yet dynamic composition, employing a soft, muted palette that includes shades of pink, green, blue, and beige. Each segment of the painting seems to narrate a different visual story, yet all are tied together through a consistent style and thematic continuity.Valmier’s use of circular and arched elements alongside straight lines adds a rhythmic quality to the painting, while the incorporation of patterns such as stripes and waves introduces texture and depth. The careful placement of circles and lines also suggests a playful interaction of balance and movement within the structured confines of the canvas."Collection décors et couleurs Pl.09" is not just a display of abstract shapes but a demonstration of how color, form, and pattern can convey emotion and aesthetic impact without the need for representational forms.

Georges Valmier (11 April 1885 – 25 March 1937) was a French painter. His work encompassed the great movements in the modern history of painting, starting with Impressionism in his early years, then Cubism which he discovered when he was around 25 years old, and finally Absstractionism from 1921. He also designed sets and costumes for theater and ballet, and models for fabrics, carpets, and other objects. His oil paintings do not exceed 300 in number, since Valmier died prematurely at the age of 51. His paintings were the culmination of many preparatory drafts in gouaches, multiple versions of which are works in themselves and reflect his penchant for colors and inventive shapes. Valmier was also a musician. He performed the works of Debussy, Ravel, Fauré, and Satie at major concerts and in churches, and had a decisive influence on the career of André Jolivet.
