More about this artwork

This simple yet evocative charcoal sketch titled "Männlicher Akt," rendered with delicate precision by artist Karl Wiener, presents the viewer with a serene portrayal of the male form. The artist's mastery in shading and contouring is evident, as soft charcoal lines suggest both the musculature and the subtle posture of the model. The figure stands in a relaxed pose, displaying a gentle contrapposto as he turns slightly away from the viewer, imbuing the work with a sense of quiet introspection.Karl Wiener's attention to detail not only respects the anatomical accuracy but also captures a moment of human vulnerability and natural elegance. The neutral background accentuates the contours and soft form of the body, allowing the figure's physique to dominate the composition, thus directing the viewer's focus entirely on the interplay of light and shadow across the flesh.

Karl Wiener was an Austrian draftsman , graphic artist and photo montage artist. Because of his political and time-critical montages of the 1930s and 1940s, he was posthumously referred to as the Austrian John Heartfield on the occasion of the major retrospective on his estate in the Wien Museum.
