More about this artwork
This painting titled "Harvesters" by Jules Pascin depicts a bustling, vibrant scene from agricultural life. The artwork is rendered in a delicate, sketch-like manner with subtle washes of color that suggest movement and the haziness of a hot day.In the foreground, various figures are busily engaged in their tasks related to the harvest. The figures are mostly outfitted in traditional work attire, which includes hats likely to shield them from the sun, underscoring the outdoor, rural setting of the scene. A man on the right is raising a sack overhead, possibly filled with harvested goods, emphasizing the laborious nature of the activity. Another man to the left seems to be leaning forward, maybe picking something or working the soil.Central to the scene are a number of horses, depicted in mid-motion, which adds a dynamic quality to the composition. The horses are equipped with harnesses, suggesting they play a role in the tasks, perhaps related to plowing or transporting goods. These animals, along with the human figures, create a sense of focused, collective labor. The background is minimally detailed, with sweeping, broad strokes that might represent a distant horizon or the boundaries of the harvested fields.

Nudes, street scenes and landscapes of women and tropical locations by Bulgarian-born American painter Jules Pascin (1885-1930). Born to an affluent family, Pascin was educated in Austria and Germany before moving to Paris in 1905. It was there that he became associated with the Modernist movement. He attached himself to the human condition and was known for painting portraits of nude and half-dressed women. He stands in the grand tradition of the romantic, bohemian artist.
