More about this artwork
This artwork by Auguste Rodin features the expressive and sketchy portrayal of a nude woman. The drawing is minimalist yet dynamic, depicting the figure in a twisting pose that accentuates her form, particularly her posterior. The lines are fluid, and Rodin uses both light and bold strokes to highlight the contours of her body, illustrating his mastery in capturing the human form with emotion and movement. This piece is characteristic of Rodin's interest in the naturalism and physical expression of the human body, reflecting both grace and the raw animate nature of his subjects.

Rodin was born into a poor family. After earning a living through sculpting decorative stoneworks, he entered art school. He then applied a craftsman-like approach to his work and modeled the human body with the naturalism that latterly became his unique style. Considered as the founder of modern sculpture, Rodin's original works clashed with predominant figurative sculpture from traditional themes of mythology and allegory since he celebrated individual human physicality.
