More about this artwork
The painting depicts a full-length image of a nude woman standing upright. She faces forward, with a direct and serene expression. The woman's body is rendered in soft, warm tones that highlight the curves and contours delicately. Her posture is composed and upright, conveying a sense of confidence and tranquility. The background of the painting is minimal, mostly white with a dark, blurry column to the right side, which contrasts with the clear and detailed depiction of the figure.

Rodin was born into a poor family. After earning a living through sculpting decorative stoneworks, he entered art school. He then applied a craftsman-like approach to his work and modeled the human body with the naturalism that latterly became his unique style. Considered as the founder of modern sculpture, Rodin's original works clashed with predominant figurative sculpture from traditional themes of mythology and allegory since he celebrated individual human physicality.
