More about this artwork

"L’Atelier À Alet-Les-Bains" (1922) by Achille Laugé is a vibrant and evocative painting that captures the tranquil beauty of the French countryside. This work features a lush garden scene bathed in sunlight, leading to a clandestine artist's studio embraced by nature. In the forefront, we see an explosion of floral glory, with white and pink blooms dominating the scene, creating a feeling of freshness and natural abundance. A delicate path, dappled with sunlight and shadows, draws the viewer’s eye towards a rustic building adorned with climbing roses. The use of light and color in this painting is particularly striking, evoking a sense of peace and artistic inspiration. The building itself, possibly the artist's workshop, is partially hidden behind a verdant array of trees and flowering plants, suggesting a haven of creativity secluded from the outside world. The combination of architectural and natural elements highlights Laugé’s skill in balancing composition and color, while also reflecting his deep admiration for nature.Through "L’Atelier À Alet-Les-Bains," Achille Laugé not only portrays a physical landscape but also invites us into a serene, almost idyllic, space where nature and art intertwine seamlessly.

The painter Achille Laugé (1861-1944) was born in Arzens, France. After studying at the famous art academies of the time, the artist followed his own unique path in the Neo-Impressionist movement, always remaining deeply attached to his native region of Occitania. Laugé never followed the methods and advice of his teachers, and his work was considered radical for his time.
