More about this artwork

We are delighted to feature one of Otto Mueller's captivating works, "Zwei Mädchenakte (Zwei sitzende Akte)" from 1926, which showcases his unique approach to expressionist art. This painting is a beautiful example of Mueller's talent in capturing the delicate interplay of form and color. In this evocative piece, two seated nude figures are depicted amidst a serene, abstract landscape. Mueller's expert use of muted tones and soft pastel colors creates a gentle, dream-like atmosphere that invites the viewer into a tranquil world. The figures are rendered with minimalistic yet powerful line work that borders on the abstract, emphasizing the shapes and contours of their bodies without detailed facial features. This simplicity directs our focus to their forms and the natural setting that envelops them. The blue and green hues in the background suggest a hint of foliage and sky, which seamlessly blend into the fluid outlines of the figures. This integration of the human form with nature is a recurring theme in Mueller's work, reflecting his Expressionist ideals and his fascination with the harmony between humans and their environment."Zwei Mädchenakte (Zwei sitzende Akte)" is a testament to Otto Mueller's ability to convey profound emotion and beauty with a sparse palette and economy of detail. We encourage our visitors to linger on this artwork and experience the peacefulness and introspective quality that it offers.

Otto Müller was a German painter and printmaker of the Die Brücke expressionist movement.

Mueller was born in Liebau (now Lubawka, Kamienna Góra County), Kreis Landeshut, Silesia. Between 1890 and 1892 he was trained in lithography in Görlitz and Breslau. From 1894 to 1896 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden and continued his study in Munich during 1898. He left Munich's academy after Franz von Stuck classified him as untalented.
