More about this artwork
"La Vie Extraordinaire" by Hans Zatzka transports viewers into a vividly imagined, idyllic scene brimming with romanticism and fantasy. This exquisite painting showcases Zatzka's skill in creating lush, detailed compositions that evoke a sense of wonder. In the painting, two ethereal women are depicted in an enchanting, overgrown garden that suggests the ruins of an ancient villa. The woman standing on the left reaches up to gently touch a magnificent, large bird that hovers with outstretched wings, its feathers blending seamlessly with the soft, ambient light. She holds a palette and brushes in her other hand, hinting that she might be the creator of the beauty surrounding her. The seated woman, draped in sumptuous fabrics, watches this interaction with an expression of calm contemplation, resting one hand on a richly decorated staff. The surrounding architecture is adorned with floral growth and classical elements, contributing to the dreamlike quality of the scene. Scattered flowers and a vibrant throw of green at the foreground further enhance the mixture of natural and man-made beauty.

Hans Zatzka (8 March 1859 – 17 December 1945 or 1949) was an Austrian Academic and fantasy painter. He has sometimes been known as P. Ronsard, Pierre de Ronsard, or H. Zabateri, and signed many of his works as Joseph Bernard, J. Bernard, or Bernard Zatzka. The purpose of Zatzka's vast array of pseudonyms was to avoid penalties of breaking contracts which limited the amount of artwork he could sell. This has caused some art databases to conflate Zatzka's work under the pseudonym Joseph Bernard with the French sculptor with the same name.
