Welcome to our online gallery, where we proudly present the captivating painting titled "Twee meisjes in roze en wit op het strand," created by the distinguished Dutch artist Jozef Israëls, whose work spanned from 1834 to 1911. This exquisite piece vividly encapsulates Israëls’ aptitude for sensitive and emotive depictions of daily life.In this tender watercolor, viewers are drawn into a serene beach scene featuring two young girls. One is dressed in a delicate pink dress with a subtle white apron, while the other dons a more modest white ensemble. Their attire is reminiscent of the late 19th-century fashion, suggesting innocence and simplicity. The girl in white is bent over, seemingly adjusting or cleaning the hem of her companion’s dress, portraying an act of care or assistance—a testament to the themes of friendship and meticulous attention to the ordinary yet significant moments that often pervade Israëls' work. The backdrop of the painting features a tranquil seascape, lightly brushed with pale blue waters and a strip of sandy beach. In the distance, sailboats with thin masts punctuate the horizon, adding a sense of depth and escapism to the composition.Jozef Israëls, often referred to as the 'Dutch Millet', was renowned for his ability to infuse his subjects with a profound sense of humanity and compassion, qualities that are palpably reflected in this artwork. Through his delicate brushwork and masterful use of light, Israëls not only captures a moment in time but also evokes a palpable sense of calm and contemplation.

Jozef Israëls was a Dutch painter. He was a leading member of the group of landscape painters referred to as the Hague School and, during his lifetime, "the most respected Dutch artist of the second half of the nineteenth century".

He was born in Groningen, of Jewish parents. His father, Hartog Abraham Israëls, intended for him to be a businessman, and it was only after a determined struggle that he was allowed to embark on an artistic career. He studied initially from 1835 to 1842 at the Minerva Academy in his home town Groningen.
