More about this artwork

"Pohľad na Košice" (1927) by Konštantín Bauer is a captivating depiction of the charming cityscape of Košice, nestled in eastern Slovakia. This atmospheric painting captures an array of rooftops, punctuated by the prominent feature of a church dome that commands the viewer’s attention. The dome, painted with a gentle orange hue, contrasts beautifully against the moody, swirling grey sky, invoking a sense of both melancholy and grandeur.Bauer's use of muted colors and soft, flowing lines gives the painting a dream-like quality, while still retaining the architectural integrity and historical essence of the city. The bare, gnarled branches in the foreground suggest a late autumn or winter season, adding to the overall somber, yet enchanting atmosphere of the piece. This artwork not only provides a visual journey through the historic rooftops of Košice but also evokes a deep appreciation for the serene and timeless beauty captured by Bauer’s skillful brushwork.
