More about this artwork

Experience a journey into the lavish decor and opulent design of the early 20th century through Edwin Foley’s painting, "Circular Table of Various Marbles, with Chased Gilt Mounts." This striking piece vividly portrays a sumptuous circular table crafted from a rich mosaic of diverse marbles. The table's boundary is tastefully adorned with chased gilt mounts that shimmer with ornate detailing, lending an air of regality and splendor to the scene. The table stands upon four elegantly carved legs that resemble classical architectural columns, each crowned by a majestic, winged figure that adds a mythical essence to its structure. These figures, meticulously detailed, bring not only support but also grandeur, merging the realms of function and fantasy. The room setting depicted in Foley's painting complements the opulence of the table. Draped against a backdrop of intricately patterned curtains in hues of deep red and golden accents, the table takes center stage. Below, a sumptuously designed carpet echoes the circular theme, rounding off the composition beautifully.Edwin Foley, through his keen eye for detail and masterful use of color, invites us into a moment frozen in time, where every element is a testament to the luxurious interiors of a bygone era.
