More about this artwork

"Mirror, Gueridons, and Table Overlaid with Silver Plaques" is a captivating artwork by Edwin Foley, masterfully painted between 1910 and 1911. This piece invites viewers into a richly decorated interior, typical of the opulent design trends from the turn of the 20th century. At the center of the composition is a large, ornately framed mirror, casting back reflections of an elegant room. Intricately carved with floral and rococo motifs, the silver frame of the mirror is a testament to the elaborate craftsmanship of the era.Beneath the mirror stands a table, equally lavish, its surface also embellished with silver plaques that echo the intricate designs of the mirror frame. Flanking the table are two gueridons (small side tables), their structures adorned with similar ornate carvings and curves, enhancing the symmetry and the formal aesthetic of the setting. This finely detailed painting not only portrays the sophistication of interior design of the period but also evokes the social and cultural ambience associated with such luxuriant decor. Edwin Foley's meticulous attention to detail and his ability to capture the essence of reflected light and shadow in such settings are magnificently showcased in this artwork.
