Enckell’s use of blurred and swirling brushstrokes adds a dreamlike quality to the scene, suggesting the movement of the performers and the spellbound audience. The audience itself is an amalgamation of elegant silhouettes, painted with quick, expressive strokes that convey a sense of immediacy and motion. With hats adorned and heads tilted in various angles, the viewers are portrayed in a moment of collective entrancement, engulfed in the theatrical experience.Dominating the upper part of the painting is a richly detailed proscenium arch, brushed in cooler tones that contrast with the warm hues of the stage.
