More about this artwork

Dutch artist Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita's graphite drawing, "Zittend vrouwelijk naakt" (Seated Female Nude), exemplifies his keen ability to capture the human form with simplicity and sensitivity. In this serene and contemplative piece, a female figure is depicted sitting, rendered with delicate, fine lines that emphasize both form and the soft texture of the skin. The sitter’s eyes are gazing away, evoking a sense of introspection or distant thought, which offers a glimpse into the emotional state of the subject. The nude figure is modestly posed, with her body slightly turned, highlighting the natural curves and the graceful posture of her seated form. Mesquita’s use of light and shadow subtly shapes the contours of the body, while the textured background ensures that the focus remains on the figure herself.Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita, known for his contributions to Dutch graphic arts, showcases his mastery in blending realism with a hint of art nouveau style in this work. The treatment of the hair and the soft facial features reflect the period's aesthetic, adding an element of elegance to the straightforward composition.
