More about this artwork

In the exquisite botanical illustration "Rosa Centifolia Anemonoides," the renowned artist Pierre Joseph Redouté captures the delicate allure of a particular variant of the centifolia rose. Created between 1817 and 1824, this painting belongs to a period when Redouté was highly recognized for his detailed and vivid depictions of flowers. The artwork featured two full blooms and several buds in varying stages of development, each intricately detailed to showcase the complexities of the rose's form and texture. The flowers, rendered in soft shades of pink, exhibit the lush, layered petals that are characteristic of the centifolia species, often referred to as "cabbage roses" due to their densely packed petals. The leaves and stems are portrayed with a realistic accuracy, highlighting the artist's skill in observing and depicting botanical details. The stalks, adorned with thorns, hold up the plush blooms and buds, with the green leaves providing a contrasting backdrop that enhances the roses' romantic hue."Rosa Centifolia Anemonoides" not only serves as a testament to Redouté's artistic mastery but also reflects his profound understanding of botany. This painting, like many of Redouté’s works, stands out as both a scientific document and a piece of artistic beauty, making it a treasure for both art enthusiasts and botanical experts.
