More about this artwork

Experience a captivating snapshot of 20th-century European art through Konštantín Bauer's evocative painting "Motív z Košíc" (1928). Employing a distinct pastel on paper medium, Bauer masterfully depicts a serene urban landscape that conveys the essence of Košice, a city rich in history and culture. The artwork features an atmospheric view of an old street flanked by quaint, vaguely outlined buildings that exude an aura of timeless charm. Muted colors blend seamlessly on the canvas, enveloping the scene in a soft, almost dreamlike quality. A foreground dominated by a shadowed, empty street leads the viewer's eye towards the subtly highlighted facades of homes, perhaps hinting at the quiet lives within. Bare, spindly trees intersperse the buildings, their delicate branches etched against a hazy, overcast sky, evoking the cool stillness of an early spring day.As a celebrated piece in Bauer’s oeuvre, "Motív z Košíc" invites its audience to pause and reflect on the beauty and tranquility of ordinary scenes, transforming a simple city view into a profound artistic statement.
