More about this artwork

Explore the serene dreamscape of Henri Martin’s "Rêverie automnale," an enchanting artwork that captures the ethereal mood of autumn through the eyes of Impressionism. In this vivid painting, we are drawn into a forest bathed in warm, golden light, where hues of amber and ocher blend seamlessly with the deep violets and blues of the shadowed woods. At the center of this kaleidoscope of color stands a figure, a woman draped in a flowing, orange gown that echoes the autumnal colors around her. She is poised gently against a tree, her arm gracefully raised to touch a branch, her expression one of deep contemplation and tranquility. The brushstrokes are brisk and dappled, creating a texture that evokes the fleeting, diffused quality of light filtering through autumn leaves."Rêverie automnale" is not just a visual treat; it's a meditative piece that invites viewers to pause and reflect, perhaps to find themselves in the quiet corners of nature just as the woman in the painting does.

Henri-Jean Guillaume "Henri" Martin (5 August 1860 – 12 November 1943) was a French painter. Elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1917, he is known for his early 1920s work on the walls of the Salle de l'Assemblée générale, where the members of the Conseil d'État meet in the Palais-Royal in Paris. Other notable institutions that have featured his Post-Impressionist paintings in their halls through public procurement include the Élysée Palace, Sorbonne, Hôtel de Ville de Paris, Palais de Justice de Paris, as well as Capitole de Toulouse, although the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux and Musée des Augustins also have sizeable public collections.
