More about this artwork
"Venice, Santa Maria della Salute and Campanile di San Marco" is a captivating oil painting by Austrian artist Carl Moll, dating circa 1922. This artwork offers a serene and textured depiction of two of Venice's most iconic structures: Santa Maria della Salute, a large Baroque church that stands elegantly along the Grand Canal, and the Campanile di San Marco, the city's famous bell tower located in the Piazza San Marco.Peer closely and you can see Moll's mastery in capturing the shimmering reflection of the buildings on the wide expanse of the silky aqua waters of the canal. The scene is quiet but vivid, painted with broad, expressive strokes that suggest movement and the play of light across water and architecture. The color palette features green, ochre, and red tones, reflecting both the historical richness of Venice and the atmospheric mood of the city under an overcast sky.A solitary gondola is also visible, gently rippling the water as it passes, reminding viewers of the quiet everyday moments that take place against the backdrop of this grand historic setting. This painting does not just capture the physical attributes of Venice but evokes the essence and soul of this timeless city.
