More about this artwork
"Flowers and a Bowl of Fruit on a Table," painted in 1894 by the renowned artist Paul Gauguin, is a vibrant and textured still life that captures the simplicity and beauty of everyday objects. The painting features a bouquet of soft, blushing pink roses and sprightly blue flowers, elegantly arranged in a classic blue glass vase. Adjacent to the bouquet rests a small ornamental bowl, delicately painted with hints of red and blue, evoking a sense of otherworldliness that Gauguin often infused into his work.On the right side of the canvas, a bowl brimming with ripe fruits—an orange, a lemon, and what appears to be a mango—offers a contrast in both texture and color. The fruit's rich, warm tones juxtapose the cool blues and whites of the floral arrangement and the vase. The entire scene is set against a backdrop of a simple, yet suggestive white tablecloth that gracefully catches shadows and reflections, adding depth and movement to the still life. The painting's broad, expressive brushstrokes and the juxtaposition of vivid and pastel colors showcase Gauguin's post-Impressionistic style, marking a departure from the finer detailing of traditional still life compositions. This work is not merely an arrangement of objects but a vivid exploration of color, form, and the emotive power of the everyday.

Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin was a French Post-Impressionist artist. Unappreciated until after his death, Gauguin is now recognized for his experimental use of color and Synthetist style that were distinct from Impressionism. Toward the end of his life, he spent ten years in French Polynesia. The paintings from this time depict people or landscapes from that region.
