More about this artwork

Dive into the vibrant world of Karl Wiener with his intriguing artwork "Komposition in Grün und Violett," created around 1921. This piece exemplifies Wiener's unique style and bold use of color. The composition, primarily in shades of green and violet, features abstract forms that interlock and overlap in a dynamic arrangement. The shapes, which hint at both geometric and organic forms, are outlined in black, giving the piece a strong, graphic quality.Wiener's choice of color is of particular note; the green hues range from deep, mossy tones to bright, light variations, creating a vivid contrast with the rich violets and purples that frame and intersect these shapes. Small accents of black not only define but also add depth and shadow, enhancing the three-dimensional feel of the flat canvas."Komposition in Grün und Violett" is a testament to the early 20th-century European avant-garde, reflecting a period of exploration and innovation in abstract art. This painting not only appeals to the visual senses but also encourages viewers to explore the boundaries of form and color, inviting each individual to interpret the complexities of its composition in their own way.

Karl Wiener was an Austrian draftsman , graphic artist and photo montage artist. Because of his political and time-critical montages of the 1930s and 1940s, he was posthumously referred to as the Austrian John Heartfield on the occasion of the major retrospective on his estate in the Wien Museum.
