More about this artwork

Karl Wiener's striking artwork "Frauenfigur" translates to "Figure of a Woman" in English, and it captures a unique blend of elegance and geometric form. This drawing features a stylized female figure adorned in a long dress or skirt, characterized by a meticulous pattern that seemingly sparkles with dotted embellishments. The woman's attire is simple yet sophisticated, marked by a bold, contrasting bodice and straps that create an interesting visual dynamic against her light, angular garment. The figure’s posture is poised and frontal, with her arms gently extended, which contributes to an aura of grace and composure. Her expression is serene, accented by dark, defined hair that shapes her demure face. Wiener's use of clean, sharp lines, not only in the figure but also in the background, suggests a backdrop radiating outward, adding a sense of depth and movement to the composition. This portrayal merges elements of Art Deco with a modernist sensibility, reflecting Wiener’s distinctive artistic style."Frauenfigur" is a beautiful example of how minimalistic design elements and thoughtful use of patterns can evoke a sense of personality and timelessness in art.

Karl Wiener was an Austrian draftsman , graphic artist and photo montage artist. Because of his political and time-critical montages of the 1930s and 1940s, he was posthumously referred to as the Austrian John Heartfield on the occasion of the major retrospective on his estate in the Wien Museum.
