The composition centers on a woman seated at a table in an elegantly appointed dining room. She appears absorbed in her task, possibly sewing or handling some delicate piece of fabric, an activity that gives the scene a calm, contemplative atmosphere. The room is depicted with broad, expressive brushstrokes typical of Impressionism, capturing the interplay of light and shadow without meticulous detail, which adds to the painting's evocative appeal. The light streaming through the windows bathe the scene in warm tones, highlighting segments of the room and the woman's attire, enhancing the ethereal quality of the moment. On the right side of the painting, a small white dog lies at the woman's feet, contributing to the sense of daily life and companionship in the space. The reflection in the mirror on the left adds depth to the scene, hinting at the expanse of the room and the complexity of the woman's world.Morisot's use of color, light, and loose brushwork not only characterizes the impressionist style but also serves to draw attention to the textures of the materials and the tranquility of private moments. This painting offers a glimpse into the quiet, reflective spaces of everyday life, marked by a subtle yet profound beauty.

Landscapes and still life by French impressionist painter Berthe Morisot (1841–1895). She was celebrated for the feminine qualities of her paintings, intuitiveness, spontaneity and delicacy, and she often included her daughter Julie in her paintings. Berthe was married to the brother of Édouard Manet, and some say she was his muse, as she modeled in many of his paintings.
