More about this artwork
The painting titled "Three Sleeping Owls" by Gerrit Willem Dijsselhof portrays three owls seated side by side on a branch, depicted in a highly stylized and simplified form. The artist uses bold, black contours to outline the shapes of the owls and employs patterned textures to fill their forms, giving them a distinctive, graphic quality. Their eyes are closed, implying that they are sleeping, and their heads are slightly tilted, which adds a serene and peaceful expression to their appearance. The background is a flat, soft green color that contrasts sharply with the dark figures of the owls, highlighting them as the focal point of the work. The overall composition is balanced and harmonious, capturing the quiet and still nature of the scene.
