In the painting, two grasshoppers are depicted on slender rice plants. One grasshopper, perched vertically, clings near the top of a bending stalk that hosts several clusters of rice grains. The second grasshopper, oriented horizontally, rests on another stalk, closer to the foreground, amidst the rice paddies that gently sway and overlap in delicate lines. The background is soft and sparse, emphasizing the intricate details and naturalistic colors of the grasshoppers and the delicate textures of the rice plants.
