More about this artwork

Welcome to our exploration of Pierre Pinsard's intriguing artwork, "Possible…Impossible!" crafted in 1929. This striking piece invites viewers into a surreal and cosmic landscape, characterized by its bold graphic simplicity and intriguing use of color and form.At the forefront of "Possible…Impossible!" stands an enigmatic figure, evocative of tribal or ancient symbolism, its form simplified into sweeping black curves and sharp angles. This central figure, possibly representing a mythical creature, is composed in a dynamic, almost dancing pose, encapsulated within a large, orange ring that dominates the backdrop, suggesting a celestial body or perhaps a portal to another dimension.Surrounding this figure and the orange orb are smaller celestial elements—stars scattered across the field and a couple of distant orbs in muted tones of grey and beige, reinforcing the theme of the cosmos and the infinite reach of space. The largest of these orbs, placed near the top left of the composition and rendered in a grainy texture, contrasts with the solid forms and could symbolize a distant moon or sun.Pinsard's use of color is deliberately restrained but impactful—using orange, black, and shades of grey to create a striking visual narrative that plays with themes of the known and the unknown, the possible and the impossible. The stark contrasts and the fluidity of the shapes encourage the viewer’s eye to move around the canvas, engaging with each element in a contemplative manner."Possible…Impossible!" is a testament to Pinsard’s innovative style and his ability to evoke deep, philosophical questions through minimalist compositions.
