More about this artwork

Jules Pascin's painting "Eliane" captures an intimate, delicate portrayal of a woman seated in a natural, relaxed pose. This artwork exemplifies Pascin's skill in rendering the human form with both sensitivity and a profound sense of realism. The subject, Eliane, is depicted with a gentle, introspective gaze, suggesting a moment of quiet contemplation. The soft, muted palette of earth tones and the subtle interplay of light and shadow enhance the tranquility and the ephemeral quality of the piece. Pascin's brushwork, loose yet deliberate, provides a texture that lends the painting an almost ethereal charm. This piece is a fine representation of Pascin's artistic legacy, demonstrating his ability to convey deep, emotional narratives through his art.

Nudes, street scenes and landscapes of women and tropical locations by Bulgarian-born American painter Jules Pascin (1885-1930). Born to an affluent family, Pascin was educated in Austria and Germany before moving to Paris in 1905. It was there that he became associated with the Modernist movement. He attached himself to the human condition and was known for painting portraits of nude and half-dressed women. He stands in the grand tradition of the romantic, bohemian artist.
