More about this artwork

"Sagittarius" by Henri van der Stok is an evocative artwork that beautifully captures the mystical essence of its astrological subject. Crafted within the period of 1880 to 1920, this piece is an exemplary representation of early 20th-century symbolic art.In this stunning print, the archetypical figure of Sagittarius is illustrated as a robust archer poised in the act of shooting an arrow. The archer, modeled with powerful, sculptural muscles, is depicted mid-action atop a galloping horse, embodying the dynamic and adventurous spirit of those born under this zodiac sign. Stars punctuate the dark background, enhancing the celestial theme while reminding the viewer of the cosmic scale at which these zodiacal symbols operate.Attention to detail can be seen in the intricate patterns and vegetation surrounding the centaur, adding depth and a sense of the natural environment in which this celestial archer exists. Each element within the print from the tensed bow of the archer to the spirited stance of the horse captures a timeless narrative of aim, ambition, and striving towards one's goals.
