More about this artwork

Anders Zorn, a renowned Swedish painter and printmaker, is celebrated for his masterful etchings that evoke emotion and natural beauty. "Shallow," completed in 1913, is a striking testament to his skill in this medium. This etching illustrates a serene moment at a shallow riverbank, where two figures stand in the glistening water. The scene captures one figure, likely a young woman, entering the water with a graceful poise, looking back over her shoulder towards another figure who appears to be hesitating at the edge. The water, detailed with fine, reflective ripples, emphasizes the play of light and shadow, a hallmark of Zorn’s work. The backdrop features a densely wooded riverbank, soft and texturally rich, conveying a sense of secluded tranquility."Shallow" is not only an artistic exploration of human interaction with nature but also showcases Zorn's immense talent in using contrasts and intricate line work to depict water and human figures in harmonious existence.
