More about this artwork

"The Wolf Blows Down the House of Straw" is a captivating illustration by Leonard Leslie Brooke, dating back to 1904. This artwork vividly brings to life a classic scene from the beloved fairy tale of the Three Little Pigs. In this depiction, the wolf, a central figure, illustrates raw power and determination as he blows with all his might to dismantle the fragile house made of straw. The intensity of the wolf's action is palpable, with every muscle tensed in the effort to huff and puff the house down.Amid the chaos of flying straw, one of the little pigs can be seen in a state of distress, as it is helplessly tossed into the air by the force of the wolf’s breath. The surroundings are equally detailed, featuring lush greenery and floral elements that add a contrast to the scene’s central turmoil. Brooke's use of soft pastel colors enhances the whimsical yet tense atmosphere of the narrative, inviting viewers to contemplate themes of vulnerability and resilience.
