More about this artwork

We are delighted to feature a captivating illustration by Leonard Leslie Brooke titled "Goldilocks tastes the porridge," created in 1909. This artwork vividly brings to life a beloved moment from the classic fairy tale "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." In this charming scene, Goldilocks, dressed in a simple yellow gown, is caught in the gentle act of tasting the porridge she finds in the bear’s house. The painting is rich in detail and warm, inviting colors. Goldilocks stands over a large bowl of porridge, which she has just served herself, lifting a spoonful to her mouth. The expression on her face is one of cautious curiosity, adding to the narrative of her unexpected adventure. The table is set in a cozy kitchen, with a lovely bouquet of flowers adding a splash of brightness and contrasting beautifully with the earthy tones of the room. The background features a playful arrangement of framed pictures showing silhouettes of bears and decorative plates, enhancing the homey and slightly whimsical atmosphere of the bear family's dwelling.Brooke's use of soft pastels and his attention to the textures of the fabrics and floral elements make this painting not only a story illustration but also a piece of art that evokes nostalgia and warmth. This illustration is a perfect example of Brooke's ability to capture the essence of childhood tales, making them enduringly appealing to both young and old.
