More about this artwork

We are delighted to feature the charming illustration "Goldilocks Asleep" created by Leonard Leslie Brooke in 1909. This enchanting piece comes from Brooke’s illustrations for the beloved children's tale "Goldilocks and the Three Bears."In this serene depiction, Goldilocks is shown deep in slumber on the bed of the smallest bear. With her golden hair spread out across the pillow, she embodies innocence and tranquility. The room is drawn with soft, inviting colors; the bed and floor are adorned with quaint patterns that add a touch of homeliness to the scene. Brooke’s talent shines through in the details—the decorative motifs on the bedspread, the whimsical wallpaper, and the gentle drapery at the window. The large window in the background fills the room with light, offering a view to a vibrant garden that seems to echo the peacefulness of Goldilocks' sleep. The artist’s use of color and light effectively conveys a warm, dream-like quality to this moment of rest in the middle of an otherwise adventurous tale. This illustration not only captures the timeless appeal of a classic fairy tale but also showcases Brooke's skill in creating an atmosphere that is both captivating and comforting.
