More about this artwork

Welcome to an enchanting visual experience; immerse yourself in Marie Egner’s exquisite painting, "Flowering Azaleas." Captured with a masterful brush, this artwork transports viewers into a serene greenhouse scene, bathed in the soft, ambient light filtering through a dust-speckled window. The painting portrays several azalea plants in full bloom, their delicate petals ranging in shades from a gentle blush to a vivid, deep coral, creating a harmonious dance of color that captures the eye. These azaleas are meticulously detailed, showing Egner’s precise handling of light and texture, which brings each blossom and leaf to life.Adding a touch of autumnal transition, scattered leaves with tones of amber, russet, and gold lie casually on the greenhouse's stone ledge, suggesting the changing season outside this cultivated oasis. The pots, varying in size and seeming worn by use and time, add an earthy, grounded element to the scene, highlighting the timeless beauty of nature and nurturing."Flowering Azaleas" by Marie Egner is not merely a depiction of flora but an invitation to ponder the quiet growth and seasonal rhythms within a space secluded from the bustling world.

Marie Egner was an Austrian painter.

Egner was born on 25 August 1850 in Bad Radkersburg, Austria. She took her first drawing lessons in Graz with Hermann von Königsbrunn, then went to Düsseldorf from 1872 to 1875, where she studied with Carl Jungheim. In 1882, she went to Vienna to live with her mother, but spent her summers at the art colony in Plankenberg Castle, near Neulengbach, where she took lessons with Emil Jakob Schindler until 1887. A study trip to England followed from 1887 to 1889. Shortly after, her first exhibition was held at the Vienna Künstlerhaus. She also exhibited in Germany and England.
