More about this artwork

Konštantín Bauer's painting "Na Kalvárií v Košiciach," created in 1921, captures a serene and picturesque landscape that draws viewers into the lush vitality and tranquil spirit of Košice’s outskirts. Masterfully employing a vivid palette and expressive brush strokes, Bauer depicts a rolling landscape that effortlessly guides the eye across verdant fields, dense patches of trees, and the undulating lines of distant hills. The painting is distinguished by its prominent centerpiece - a charming church, whose white and gray spire stands elegantly against a soft, cloud-studded sky, echoing a sense of peaceful seclusion and spiritual reverence. The surrounding architecture appears nestled among a tapestry of greens and blues, suggesting the harmonious coexistence of man-made structures with nature.Bauer's brushwork imbues the scene with dynamic textures, from the rough foliage and tree trunks to the softer, smoother surfaces of the sky and rolling farmlands. This textural diversity not only enhances the visual depth but also evokes the tactile sensations of a breezy, sunlit day in the countryside."Na Kalvárií v Košiciach" not only showcases Bauer’s skill as a colorist and his sensitivity to nature’s subtleties but also offers a timeless homage to the Slovak landscape's beauty. It prompts contemplation of the simple, enduring charms of rural life and the natural world.
