More about this artwork
Titled "Paysage Stade de création étude," this serene piece by Charles François Daubigny presents a picturesque exploration of nature's tranquility and the subtle interplay of light and shade. A master of the Barbizon school, known for its emphasis on realism and naturalism, Daubigny brings to life a lush, verdant landscape. In this study, one is transported to a peaceful forest hillside dotted with towering trees that sway gently in the breeze. The foreground of the painting shows rich, green foliage through which hints of a distant landscape can be seen embodying a soft, almost misty atmosphere, possibly evoking early morning or late afternoon light. The inclusion of a small, rustic wooden box labeled "VENTE" (meaning "sale" in French) intriguingly juxtaposes the enduring beauty of nature with the transient, perhaps commercial, human activities.Daubigny's brushwork is loose and expressive, contributing to the overall sense of immediacy and intimacy within this study. The melange of greens and earth tones, coupled with the muted sky, provides a harmonious palette that invites viewers to linger and lose themselves in the forest’s quiet beauty.

Charles-François Daubigny (15 February 1817 – 19 February 1878) was a French painter, one of the members of the Barbizon school, and is considered an important precursor of impressionism.
He was also a prolific printmaker, mostly in etching but also as one of the main artists to use the cliché verre technique.
