More about this artwork

This compelling work by Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita, created on January 22, 1944, presents a stylistic portrayal of a man in profile with his left hand raised. The artwork, characterized by bold, fluid black lines against a stark white background, brings forth a minimal yet expressive depiction of the subject. The contours of the man's face are elegantly drawn, emphasizing his pronounced features and thoughtful expression. The lines of the artwork sweep across the canvas, creating a rhythmic sense of movement. The raised hand intersects with what appears to be a patterned structure, possibly a reflection or a shadow, adding a layer of depth and intrigue to the composition."Man in Profiel naar Rechts met de Linkerhand Opgeheven" is a testament to Mesquita's mastery in using simple forms to convey complex emotions and narratives. This piece invites viewers into a moment of contemplation, capturing a snapshot where time, emotion, and art intersect beautifully.
