More about this artwork

"Cock-a-doodle-doo," a delightful depiction by Leonard Leslie Brooke, captures a vibrant moment of rural life with humor and tenderness. This painting portrays a traditional farmhouse scene brimming with activity and charm. At the heart of the scene is a majestic rooster in mid-crow, its feathers a burst of rich reds, greens, and golds. Nearby, a matronly woman, smiling gently, spreads feed for a trio of eager chicks, illustrating her nurturing role within this pastoral setting. To the left, an elderly man adds a touch of whimsy to the piece. His body language and facial expression, enthralled by his own violin playing, suggest a carefree joy that contrasts subtly with the routine farm duties depicted. Behind them, curious cows peer out from the barn, and a serene bluebird perches atop the fence, adding a sense of tranquility and the harmony of nature.Leonard Leslie Brooke's use of soft, naturalistic colors and his attention to detail in the expressions and movements of his characters infuse the painting with life and narrative. "Cock-a-doodle-doo" not only celebrates the simplicity and beauty of farm life but also the joyful spirit that animates even the most ordinary of days.
