More about this artwork

We are delighted to feature "Pavot" (1896) by the distinguished Art Nouveau artist, Maurice Pillard Verneuil. Known for his profound influence in the decorative arts, Verneuil's work often showcases an intense appreciation for the natural world merged with stylized aesthetics. This particular artwork features a rich and vibrant display of poppies, set against a backdrop of elegant ornamental designs. The main panel captures the eye with its lush, detailed depiction of poppy flowers in full bloom, rendered in a bold palette of yellow and green. Each poppy is illustrated with a keen attention to the delicate forms and textures of its petals, standing out vividly against the darker, intricately designed leaves and stems.Above and to the side of the central image, smaller panels present a sophisticated array of decorative motifs. These designs include stylized floral and foliage patterns, articulated with a color scheme of blue, green, red, and cream, emphasizing the harmonious interplay between form, color, and rhythm characteristic of Verneuil’s work."Pavot" not only celebrates the beauty of nature but also exemplifies Verneuil's mastery in translating natural forms into decorative art that resonates with both organic and geometric harmony.
