More about this artwork

"Karl Wiener's evocative painting *Ohne Titel X (1942)* transports viewers to a mysterious nocturnal world. Rendered in somber tones with bursts of light highlighting the subject, Wiener captures a solitary woman in a flowing dress under the subtle crescent of a moonlit night. Her expression is enigmatic, bordered simultaneously by allure and melancholy. The use of shadow and light not only accentuates her figure and features but also creates a dramatic and almost tangible atmosphere. The darkness surrounding her seems to echo with the depth of unspoken stories, making this piece a deeply compelling exploration of emotion and the human experience.

Karl Wiener was an Austrian draftsman , graphic artist and photo montage artist. Because of his political and time-critical montages of the 1930s and 1940s, he was posthumously referred to as the Austrian John Heartfield on the occasion of the major retrospective on his estate in the Wien Museum.
